How Can We Help?
How to apply for healthcare allowances (zorgtoeslag)?
How can the au pair apply for healthcare allowances (zorgtoeslag)?
After obtaining a BSN and Dutch bank account, apply via the Dutch tax office.
- Link to Apply for Healthcare Allowance: Apply for Zorgtoeslag
- You can also arrange for a face-to-face appointment to register for healthcare benefit. More information: https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontenten/belastingdienst/individuals/benefits/how_do_benefits_work/i_want_to_apply_for_a_benefit/
On the application form:
- Report €0 income, as au pairs are not considered employees and pocket money does not count as taxable income.
- Registering for Zorgtoeslag is free – if the website you are on asks for payment, then you are not on the official government page, but a 3rd party service. We do not recommend these services. Go to Belastingdienst to arrange care allowance free- the process is simple and translatable.

Healthcare benefit is not awarded for partial months; however, health insurance is payable, even for part months, right from the date of registration at the municipality. This means that you might lose out on some money due to this unfortunately mismatch between insurance companies and the government healthcare allowance.
