How Can We Help?
When should the au pair leave the Netherlands?
When should the au pair leave the Netherlands?
The au pair must schedule their departure at least 1 day before the residence permit expires to comply with immigration rules. Overstaying can result in visa complications or fines.
Does the au pair need to inform the agency of their departure plans?
Yes, the au pair must inform the agency of:
- Their departure date.
- Their next plans, such as returning to their home country or transferring to another program or country.
- Change of purpose in The Netherlands, for example, on application of a partner visa or study permit, the purpose of the stay is no longer au pairing and so they will be deregistered from the agency.
Can the host family assist with departure tasks?
Host families can assist by:
- Helping the au pair schedule and attend deregistration or other appointments.
- Providing help with the language barrier
- Providing transportation to the airport.
- Answering simple questions. For additional questions contact followup@sunshine-aupair.com
What documents should the au pair keep after leaving?
- Proof of deregistration.
- Photos of the residence permit card (front and back).
- Any insurance cancellation letters.
What if the au pair plans to transfer to another country instead of returning home?
- The au pair must provide the agency with a copy of their visa for the next destination.
- Ensure all tasks (deregistration, cancellations, etc.) are completed in the Netherlands before leaving.
How does the au pair cancel their OV-chipkaart (public transport card)?
Visit an NS service desk or use the online cancellation form on the OV-chipkaart website. Refunds for any remaining balance can also be requested.
- OV-chipkaart Website: Cancel Card
What happens if the au pair leaves without completing these tasks?
- Failure to deregister, cancel insurance, or notify the IND can result in administrative fines, complications with future visa applications, or unnecessary charges.
- The city hall may continue to tax for a resident who is no longer living at the address, for example for garbage tax etc.
Who should the au pair contact for assistance with departure tasks?
- The agency is available to guide au pairs through the process. Contact followup@sunshine-aupair.com or your program manager for further assistance.
By completing these tasks and keeping the agency informed, au pairs can ensure a seamless departure from the Netherlands.
