Pre Au Pair arrival administration tasks

We have booked the flight, and we are waiting for the au pair to arrive.  What do I need to prepare now?

  • Book an appointment at your local municipality for you and your au pair together to get a BRP.
  • You can book a City Hall appointment online via your local municipality’s website.  Host families are responsible for this step and should attend the appointment together with the au pair.
  • If the host is unable to attend the appointment, an official permission document must be completed on the local municipality website to state that the au pair is going alone. Check the official municipality website for details.
  • Many City Halls have long waiting lists.   You should book the appointment as early as possible, for around 2 weeks after the scheduled arrival date of the au pair.    The gap in between allows for any unforeseen delays in picking up the residence permit, for example due to missing biometric data.
  • Obtain a Dutch sim card for the au pair and decide on a data plan. For EU au pairs, it may be preferable to keep the EU sim card.  However, this may limit the possibility to use certain Dutch applications.
  • An anonymous OV chipcard may be needed before a personal subscription can be arranged, so that they au pair can travel independently.
