FAQs for Au Pairs and Host Families: Administrative Tasks in the Netherlands

You should book the appointment as early as possible, for around 2 weeks after the scheduled arrival date of the au pair. The gap in between allows for any unforeseen delays in picking up the residence permit, for example due to missing biometric data. </li>

For EU au pairs, it may be preferable to keep the EU sim card. However, this may limit the possibility to use certain Dutch applications. </li>

Arrival Tasks

The agency will notify you when it’s ready and provide instructions for attending the appointment. Attendance is required only by the au pair. </li>

It is usually provided in their own country, during their visa sticker appointment. It must be provided before receiving their Dutch residence card. </li>

The agency will then inform the hosts and au pair by email to book an appointment to collect the data. The agency will book that biometrics appointment. </li>

The agency will notify the au pair when and where to collect it and book the appointment for that. </li>
